Daycare description / philosophy
The first five years of a child's life are the most important, but whatever a child expereinces, at any age, can affect them for the rest of their lives. That is why at Learn and Play Child Care Centre, I aim to provide an enviroment which encourages social skills including including problem solving and feeling expression, personal skills including hygine and self confidence, respect for all including people, animals, property and nature and learning and school readiness skills.
Getting along in social situations can be difficult even as an adult, but as a child, who lacks the skills and maturity to approach and deal with situations appropriately, it can be even more so. Children need to be taught to learn to recognize, identify and deal with their feelings in appropriate manners. By teaching children to recognize and identify the feels they have, they can then choose the best course of action to deal with those feelings. Adult guidence is best in most situations as children need lots of practice to put these skills to work, but sometimes children need to be left to work out their problems (under the close supervision of an adult, of course). Children need to learn a varity of socially appropriate skills such as inside voices, turn taking, sharing and helping others. All of which I will model with my behaviours and gental guidence which will always be done in a manner respectful of all parties. Talking down, name calling, finger pointing, hitting, swearing, etc. will not be tolerated and will not be modeled. There are many other ways in which a person can express their feelings. I offer a program that teachs tolerance, kindness and paitence.
Children also need to learn to take care of themselves as they grow older. By doing this they need to learn the necessary tasks and skills such as washing your hands before meals, washing your face and hands and brushing your teeth after meals, cleaning up after yourself, helping with house hold chores such as setting the table for meals, appropriate toileting practices and being active. Being able to complete these tasks brings a sense of accomplishment and pride, especially when encouraged and praised! Everything a child learns to do for ones self creates self confidence and pride. I offer a program that teaches the above skills.
Respect goes much further than simply not being rude and using manners. Respect extends to everything from people and animals to property and nature. Children need to learn to be respectful and the best way to do that is to model how to act respectful. I will teach the children in my care to use manners such as please and thank you, to never call names or swear at each other, to pick up their garbage both inside and out, not to destroy or wreck other people belongings, to ask to use something that is not theirs and to be kind to animals.
Children all learn in different ways; some by doing and others by observing. By providing a wide variety of developmentally and age appropriate toys, books and activities children can learn in the way that best suits their learning style. Play is not only a child's work, but it is through play that children learn. Children need to be given praise when they complete a task correctly and encouragement when they are not quite there. Including learning as part as fun and interesting activies not only attracts a child's attention, but it also peaks curriosity. Simple skills such as counting, knowing the ABC's and writing your name are beginner skills that will be needed for kindergarten and be encouraged through practice and fun activities.
In closing, Learn and Play Child Care Centre will provide an environment with the structure and flexability that children need and thrive in. Social skills including including problem solving and feeling expression, personal skills including hygine and self confidence, respect for all including people, animals, property and nature and learning and school readiness skills will be included making up the body of the program.Daycare Features
